Explore Johnson County Tennessee

We are historic Johnson County, located in the High Country of North East Tennessee. Our culture is rooted in rural America farming and manufacturing, with a long and enduring Musical Heritage.

We are rich in protected natural resources, and we are dedicated to Preserve, Protect and Promote, these natural treasures and our cultural heritage, for the enjoyment of our local communities and visitors to come. We invite you to share in these wonders of nature, learn about our rich Appalachian Culture and experience our friendly way of life.

Known as Mountain and Lake Country, we are a choice Outdoor Adventure Destination, offering many types of exciting water and mountain adventures for outdoor enthusiasts.  Motorcycle riders will love the fact that we are home to “The Snake 421” motorcycle route.  Wine lovers appreciate the fact that Johnson County is an American Viticultural Area (AVA), with a gorgeous vineyard growing quality grapes served by two good local wineries. For History buffs, we have interesting historical sites and two good museums that depict our history and culture. Theater goers will enjoy Heritage Hall, a restored turn of the century Theater, presenting first rate theater and live musical performances. Art lovers can tour and participate at our Performing Arts Center that showcases crafts and products from artisans in the Appalachian Mountains.

To make lifetime memories, bring your family, friends and groups to explore Johnson County and North East Tennessee. We are the “Jewel of the Appalachian High Country”.
